There’s something peculiar about baseball that attracts players from different sports to it. Call it the cultural impact, the lack of strain (comparatively) on the body, or the lack of salary caps, it just is attractive. Perhaps that’s why when Shohei Ohtani signed that ridiculous $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, it filled a lot of people with envy. One of them is speculated to be the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chief Tight end, Travis Kelce.

Kelce has been on the news lately (when isn’t he?). Though the headlines are mostly about his budding relationship with Taylor Swift, lately, the story’s been about his potential retirement. Kelce recently shared his thoughts on retiring and how he wishes things to turn out. That has given an interesting question – could Kelche pull a Michael Jordan or Deion Sanders and turn to baseball? Interestingly, he made some rather uncanny remarks on the sport a few months ago.

Travis Kelce and his brother Jason discussed Shohei Ohtani’s deal in their New Height Show, right after it was announced. Though they explained their love for football, Kelce was visibly in awe of Ohtani’s large deal. “It’s a lot of money,” Kelce said, continuing, “C.J. Stroud saying Basketball players want to be football players, football players want to be basketball players. And we all want to play baseball. However, Kelce wasn’t done – he even explained why he didn’t want to play baseball.

“I don’t really want to play baseball, I need more action, man!” Travis Kelce said, adding, “Playing right field in little league is not the most exciting.” It’s an understandable logic. At least in Little Leagues, balls rarely reach the outfield and as a result, most outfield players have little to do. But then, thoughts change. So, could Kelce’s change too? No one expected Jordan to play baseball but he did. However, there’s one big condition on it – age. Despite retirement talks, Travis Kelce made one thing very clear.

Travis Kelce’s deep thoughts on his retirement

Travis Kelce has always been surprisingly open about talks of retirement. At 34, he knows that time is rather limited for him in the field. During the latest episode of the Kelce brothers’ podcast, he shared how he wants to retire. “I think you were very fortunate that you were able to go out on your terms and that’s the goal,” said Travis Kelce to his brother Jason who retired in 2023.

“If I can go out on my terms and not have something happen to my body, like a big-time injury to where I have to step away. That’s the biggest goal in football to be able to do it on my terms,” Kelce said.  Though he has also shared that he loves playing and isn’t yet ready to retire, the thoughts are beginning to occur in his mind. The three-time Super Bowl winner still has two years remaining in his contract with the Chiefs.

According to RBC Wealth Management’s report, the average age of retirement for NFL players is 27.6 years. Kelce is already quite above that and perhaps that’s why speculations are growing regarding his future. But until that time comes, Kelce remains focused on successfully defending his championship next season. What’s your take on Travis Kelce’s thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
