When the Los Angeles Dodgers’ series against the New York Yankees started, fans began wondering whether they were seeing a preview of the World Series. It isn’t a surprising speculation when one looks at the huge fanbase that the teams enjoy. Add to that their star-studded squads and impeccable record (so far), it was easy to understand why the fans would think so. But then if the words of a top analyst are to be believed, there’s another team lurking in the shadows.

Though calling it shadows might be a little understatement. Philadephia Phillies currently have the best record in the league (in win percentage) and that is certainly not living in the shadows. Just like the Yankees and the Dodgers, the Phils too are filled with stars from top to bottom. More importantly, they have a few aces in their sleeves that could frustrate even the best of teams.

During his appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, top analyst Kevin Millar talked about top World Series contenders. Eisen noted that the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees look like massive favorites. It was then that Millar inserted the Philadelphia Phillies to the conversation. “I have to call Robbie Thompson with the Phillies and they won’t like (hearing) that,” Millar said about Eisen’s prediction.

However, Millar agreed that the Dodgers and Yankees do make a lot of sense. “That series was very very good. Watching these teams I think you’re on to something. But the Phillies, if they stay healthy – that staff with Wheeler and Nola and Ranger Suarez, they are tough. They are scrappy and then you obviously got Bryce Harper in the postseason, Millar said.

The Phillies do have a lot of momentum with them. They’ve played two consecutive NLCS and reached the World Series in 2022. On top of that, the team continues to look strong even after injuries. On top of that Millar also predicted that the Yankees too will have to face tough competition for that World Series spot.

Dodgers-Yankees remain favorites but Phillies and Orioles can spoil the party

Though the National League is a bit underwhelming this season, there’s stiff competition between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Dodgers. But as of now, the Phillies not only look like the more consistent team (46-20 to the Dodgers 42-26) but a deeper squad. The fact that the team continued its winning ways despite Trea Turner’s injury shows how deep that roster is.

But then things aren’t much different in the American League. While the New York Yankees remain ahead with a 48-21 record, the Baltimore Orioles are right behind with a 44-22 record. So despite all talks of domination, the Bronx Bombers are just one loss ahead of the O’s. That explains the kind of competition that both the Blue Crew and Pinstripes face. Will the rewrite recent history by reaching the World Series? Or will the Phillies and Orioles (or others) spoil their party once again?
