New York Yankees fans woke up to a sad loss. Singing icon Tony Bennett tragically passed away on July 21st at 96, approximately two weeks before his birthday. The New York Native was known for his technical ability and awe-inspiring voice. Many MLB teams and fans mourned the passing while reminiscing about the iconic vocalist. 

Bennet embodied hard work, having grown up in a low-income family. His father instilled a love of the arts, inspiring his music career. He worked as a singing waiter and polished his skill before serving in the US army during World War 2. Post which his career gained momentum.

Tony Bennett served in the final stages of World War 2, escaping death and seeing harrowing sights. But after the end of the war, he kept working at becoming a musician doing odd jobs as a singing waiter before getting his break in the early 1950s.

From there, Bennett rose to superstardom with hits like ‘Because of You,’ ‘Blue Velvet,’ and ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco’ being some of his best works. Over the decades, he achieved fluctuating success while cementing himself as a legend.

Talkin’ Yanks shared a video of his iconic performance on Twitter at the 1998 World Series reminiscing the Pop and Jazz legend. In a Tweet, they said, “RIP Tony Bennett 💙” 

Bennett sang ‘America The Beautiful’ before Game 1 of the Fall Classic at Yankee Stadium. This was a truly iconic moment as he had fans cheering while he belted out the song. Players, coaches, and others stood at attention.

Similarly, earlier this year, fans mourned the tragic death of a Yankees legend. Bennett has passed away after having battled Alzheimer’s for several years. He could keep his memory intact and continue his singing career until 2021, shortly after the pandemic.

Although Bennett was a New York native, he had a worldwide fanbase due to his awe-inspiring voice. Furthermore, his 20 Grammy awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Primetime Emmy Awards are a testament to his musical prowess.

Upon his passing, fans are showing reverence to this legend through their words.

Fans Mourn the Loss of a Legend

Tony Bennett’s death shocked people from all over the United States of America. Although he was a New York native, Bennett also left behind a massive impact in San Francisco. He was a gigantic Giants fan and was involved in singing live for some of their most significant events.

Even today, his song ‘I left my heart in San Francisco’ plays after the Giants’ home wins, a tradition that has lasted decades. While mourning his demise, some fans said that he would be missed.
