It was a day every Dodgers fan waited for after all that unfolded in the last few weeks. With the official press conference from Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Blue and White, his induction into the 2024 squad is now complete. But, it wasn’t a cakewalk for the 25-year-old as he had multiple offers to analyze before signing a deal. When he signed for LA, many accounted for history and inspiration from Japanese players as the factors that probably shaped his free agency. Though true, Yamamoto is “not backing away from the spotlight”.

Given that baseball is a century old, thus, like any other, it has many recognizable faces with a lot of impact. Even after their retirements, their glories continue to guide the future stars, starting a cycle that modern greats like Derek Jeter have been a part of. However, he is in a different state of mind six years later. Although he recognizes it as one of the factors in his decision to play for the Dodgers, he wants to change it. According to Rowan Kavner of FOX Sports, Yamamoto focused on his changed stance during his official press conference.

Quoting the Japanese, Kavner shared Yoshi’s account, “I will stop simply admiring the players that I’ve looked up to but rather strive to become the player that others want to become.”

Some big words? But when looked closer, these resemble Shohei Ohtani’s storyline as an MLB player. Will Yamamoto be able to repeat what his countryman did?

From the recent comments from Yamamoto, it is clear he is not bothered about the past but wants an association from his name. This is why he wants to improve as a player to be an admirable figure for the upcoming generation, continuing from where he left off in Japan.

Notably, in seven seasons as an Orix Buffaloes player, Yamamoto has won 75 games against 30 losses, claiming 986 strikeouts of 1.72. Astonishing!
