After an engaging MLB season that saw the Texas Rangers lift their first World Series title, the focus has shifted to the off-season. Reasonably so, as multiple teams are in the market for players to add to their squad. It includes the 27-time champions, the New York Yankees, who are looking to sign many players, including Yoshinobu Yamamoto. However, the situation has become complicated for them with many teams joining the battle to have Yamamoto’s signature. Given that the Yanks have pursued Yamamoto for months as a prime target, the latest updates have jeopardized their run for the Japanese star.

If Yamamoto signs elsewhere, it would be a setback that would be tough to overcome. However, the fresh update can bring some comfort to the Bronx Bombers. Reportedly, one of their ex-player is in a market and can make a return.

It was a consistent run for Jordan Montgomery since his New York Yankees exit. In search of the game time, he first signed for the St. Louis Cardinals, followed by the Texas Rangers in the 2023 mid-season trade, finishing the season on a high.

Montgomery had a significant shift in Texas and improved to finish the league stage with ten wins at an ERA of 3.20 and 166 strikeouts. The 30-year-old then leveled his game up in the postseason.

The left-handed pitcher recorded three wins, helping the Rangers win their World Series title. It made him a star and a fan favorite in Texas. Given his exploits, everyone thought that the Rangers would tie him up. However, this is not the case. Jordan is a free agent and is available in the market.

With his past and perfect end to the current season, he looks a great fit for the Yankees, who are looking for pitchers on the market. Montgomery’s familiarity with the Bronx also adds to the case. But are there reasons which could affect the deal?

Will Jordan Montgomery Ink a Deal with the Yankees?

When the Yankees traded Jordan last year, it was an unimaginable scenario for Jordan Montgomery. The pitcher struggled to process it while sharing his unhappiness with his sudden exit.

Terming it a shocking move, Montgomery shared to the media, “This is my family. It’s all I know. Been playing with the same guys for years.” It put Montgomery in a difficult situation, who expected a better end to his Yankees career.

However, the situation is different now. The ace pitcher is in demand now, with multiple teams chasing him, including the Yankees. This gives the World Series champion a chance to sign for his former team, which is looking for options against Yamamoto. Given his bitter exit from the past, Montgomery may or may not agree to return to the Bronx and may look for other options.
