Manny Machado made the headlines when he stated that he was opting out of his contract following the 2023 season. Notably, Machado and the Padres agreed on an 11-year $350 million deal, that will probably see the star infielder retire there. Before landing the $350 million deal, even though Machado made some comments about his feer agency, almost no one expected the Padres to offer him that big of a deal. But eventually, the plan worked for Machado.

And now, when Machado has signed the mammoth deal with the Padres, his brother-in-law did not hesitate to take a dig at the ESPN analyst over a comment he made in 2019. Recently, a video of Smith criticizing Machado has resurfaced on the internet, and the Padres star’s brother-in-law made some harsh comments about Smith.

Yonder Alonso calls out Stephen A. Smith for criticizing his brother-in-law Manny Machado

Manny Machado recently agreed on an 11-year $350 million contract with the San Diego Padres. In response to this, Talking Friars shared a video of Stephen A. Smith criticizing Manny Machado in 2019. This was right after the star infielder joined the Padres in free agency on a $300 million deal. Machado’s brother-in-law, former MLB player, Yonder Alonso has responded to the video and called out Smith for his comments. 

In a Tweet replying to the video, Alonso said, “😂😂😂 stick to basketball brooo #ClownTalk”. This was a brutal rebuttal to Smith’s bad take as Alonso shut him down. Furthermore, he even suggested that the sports personality sticks to basketball. In the video, he was heavily criticizing the $300 million deal in 2019, calling out Machado’s play. The Padres’ star infielder has proven Smith wrong and has been a rock for the organization.

Machado’s deal allows the Padres to bring in more star power in the near future

If reports are to be believed, the star infielder has agreed to take less money in the first four years, to allow his team leeway to sign more talent. According to reports, Machado will earn only $70 million in the first five years of his deal. Keeping the bulk of his contract for the last 6 years.
