Anthony Volpe breaks his silence on the 2023 season. It is not a secret that the New York Yankees have suffered a great deal of humiliation and disappointment in this year’s MLB. However, one knows they’ve messed up real bad when a rookie shares, “No one in the whole organization wants to feel the way we felt this year”.

While there are areas to improve, one cannot negate that the Yanks failed their own expectations in the past season. That said, 2024 is welcomed with high expectations. Though the rookie season was tough for Volpe, he is ready to put up a stellar show in the coming months. On top of that, his words aptly summed up his emotion.

When the 2023 debutant was asked to describe his first season, he did not mince words. He said that it was “frustrating”. He further added, “We have standards we set for ourselves as a team and individually, and I don’t think anyone felt we came even close to reaching that.. I feel like it’s even more motivating. I feel like everyone is on the same thing going into this offseason and we want to make next season special”. The 22-year-old, who smashed 21 homers and stole 24 bases this season, was further vocal about the disappointment in the clubhouse.

The 2023 Gold Glove Award winner shared that the common emotion in the clubhouse was grim. His words were, “I can tell you no one in the clubhouse, no one in the whole organization wants to feel the way we felt this year”. On that note, he wishes to improve on “everything” from his side for the next year. Moreover, there is no question about his performance.

After he hit in his rookie season, Volpe’s .209 batting average undoubtedly caused some people to take notice. He was .262 in the minor leagues, and his average hitting ability proves that he is capable. Volpe too knows it and he acknowledges the expectations that General Manager Brian Cashman has from him.

Volpe addressed what Cashman mentioned as a factor in his difficulties, stating that he “loved every minute” of his rookie season. He added that it gave him a solid base on which to grow. Volpe’s response reflected that despite knowing he underperformed offensively, hitting only.209 with a.666 OPS, he wasn’t alarmed by Cashman’s prediction. He would go ahead and perform next year, nevertheless. With that, the baseball world waits for his resurgence.
