The start of the 2024 MLB season was scorching hot for the Yankees. The team was on top of the AL East leaderboard with a PCT of above .500. However, in the mid-season, especially since June, the Yankees are on a losing streak. Recently, they lost a series to the Boston Red Sox and are currently struggling against the Tampa Blue Rays. In Tuesday’s game, the Pinstripes lost 5-3 to the Rays, which resulted in 16 defeats over the past 21 games.
Also, the Yankees have slipped to the second position behind Orioles in the AL East. To analyze the team’s struggle, their general manager Brian Cashman joined them for the series. As the MLB draft was starting on Sunday, GM Cashman already had plans to be at the ‘Yankees player development complex’ in Tampa. Regarding the Bronx performance, he had plenty to say; some statements might hit the Yankees fans really hard.

Before the series opener on Tuesday, he shared his thoughts on the Yankees performance: “It’s been a struggle, obviously,” Cashman said with the Yankees on a 6-16 skid.” Despite the Yankees winning one game against the Red Sox, the team has won all the others. It was the heroics of Ben Rice, who smashed three home runs. Eventually, the Yankees won 14-4, but since then, they have struggled.

Also, hoping to turn things around, Cashman went on saying. “Thankfully, we got out of the gates really strong, so hopefully, that cushion will allow us to work through this, hopefully, sooner than later because it’s gone on long enough.” The Bronx started 2024 with an impressive 49-21 record. However, as the games went, they were still at 55-38, as per Cashman’s statement.
Indeed, reflecting on the Yankees struggle, no team has gone past 5-16 over a span of 21 games. Also, the Yankees fans are blaming the team’s inconsistent offense for their downfall. During the downfall period, the Yankees’ OPS dropped to just .995, ranking 18th in MLB. Other than offense, the team’s pitching department also looks concerning. In a span of the last 21 games, the team has got a disastrous ERA of 6.16. In particular, Carlos Rodon is struggling in the pitching department. He has put up an ERA of 10.57 over his last five starts. However, that’s not all from the fans, as many have been ranting over Brian Cashman’s recent statement.

Fans fuming on social media over Cashman’s latest take
It’s not the first time when Brian Cashman garnered his thoughts over the Yankees losses. Earlier, in 2023, when the Yankees hit their 9th straight loss, the Bronx manager delivered similar statements. However, this time, the fans seem local on the Yankees’ downfall. Sharing his frustration on X, a fan wrote, “His tenure has also gone long enough. It’s time to move on.” Since 1998, Cashman has been with the Yankees. Of course, he has seen the highs and lows of the team. But years of experience aren’t working, and fans believe it’s high time he should look beyond the Bronx.

While there was another fan who analyzed the MLB table, “They’re about as close to third place as they are to first.” Slipping from the top position, the Yankees are struck between the Orioles and the Red Sox. While the gap is huge between the 1st and 2nd, Boston is chasing the Yankees. They sit at a winning percentage of .556 compared to the Yankees at .591. However, a few losses, and they might slip to the third position.
Witnessing the great Yankee’s downfall, a Bronx enthusiast expressed, “A championship caliber team does not lose like this. This team is far from it. Time to sell and revamp this team.” The same team has won 27 World Series titles, producing players like A-Rod and Derek Jeter. If things aren’t working, the fan believes, it’s time to build a new team.

Also, predicting the Yankees future and Cashman’s track record, another fuming fan said, “It’s only going to get worse.” Although the fan predicts Yankee’s future games, we will have to see the next steps Aaron Boone and Co. take to return to winning ways. Additionally, criticizing the team’s loss of form, yet another user wrote, “How long is he thinking the team will need to work through this?” Aside from the offensive department, the Yankees have struggled in rotation and pitching. Anthony Volpe looks out of form, and with Gerrit Cole’s comeback, the team is not improving.
So, what the Yankees need to do? At present, they can hope that a comeback match is approaching. Also, with Juan Soto and Aaron Judge to the rescue, their heroics in future games could lift the team’s spirit. Lastly, Giancarlo Stanton, Clark Schmidt, and Jasson Dominguez returning from injuries might be the missing pieces that the Yankees need to return back to form.
