Anthony Volpe has enjoyed a good time with the Yankees. Recently, he signed a 1-year contract with the Yankees for a staggering $810,100. Unarguably, he was the first rookie shortstop to smash a grand slam on May 13, 2023. What’s more? Well, at 23 years old, he finished his first season on a high by winning the AL Gold Glove Award. This made him the first Yankees rookie to win the award.
Altogether, having a good time with the Yankees, he has been a part of many interviews. Recalling his interview in 2023, hitting his first home run, he was thrilled to talk about his achievement. However, this time, the talk was a questionnaire round. In a recent conversation with the Yes Network, he was asked about his dream teammate. Would he choose the legendary Yankees or his teammates? Surprisingly, his answers were a little different than expected!

As usual, the Yankees had superstars in their entire lineup. Whether it was Babe Ruth, DiMaggio, or the present date Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, their presence has been immense on the MLB field. Another aspiring Yankees Star, Anthony Volpe, had a word with Yes Network. When asked about the players he would like to have in the infield, he said, “ Derek Jeter, shortstop, Willie Randolph, second base, RIzzo first, A-Rod at third.”
Except for Rizzo, who’s currently a player for the Yankees, Volpe snubbed other player names, reminiscent of the duo partnership that took the Yankees over the line against the Milwaukee Brewers a few months ago. Anthony Rizzo scored four of four and even smashed his 300th career homer, while another three-run shot from Anthony made the Yankees win 15-5.

Also, among the names spoken by Volpe, Derek Jeter and A-Rod have been the undisputed baseball legends. Starting with the Yankees captain, Jeter’s accolades have been endless. The former Yankees captain won five World Series with the Yankees. Also, he came into 14 All-Star selections, winning five Gold Glove Awards and five Silver Slugger awards. What’s more? He was the 28th player to touch 3,000 hits, finishing his career in the sixth rank for maximum hits.
Unarguably, picking Derek Jeter’s name was inevitable for Volpe. But, regarding the show-stealer, A-Rod’s presence is the only need. Having a career batting average of .295, Rodriguez smashed over 600 home runs. He is the only player in MLB history to score 300 stolen bases, 3000 hits, and over 2,000 runs batted in. Although Anthony Volpe made his choices clear, is he now on the road to becoming the Yankee’s future legend?
Volpe’s performance for the New York Yankees
In 2019, the Highlanders selected Anthony from the draft’s first round. Performing spring training with the team and playing minor leagues, Anthony’s time finally came on May 10, 2023. He smashed his first career grand slam, becoming the first rookie shortstop to achieve this milestone. Gathering records, he was also the first rookie to hit 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season.

Practicing and improving himself, in 2024, Anthony Volpe achieved yet another milestone. Breaking records, he made a 21-game hitting streak, the longest by any Yankees player over the last 10 years, which made him opt for a permanent lead-hitter role. Appearing for the Yankees, Volpe was active alongside their star player, Aaron Judge.
However, his recent outing against the Blue Jays was below his standard. Volpe made zero RBI and was struck out twice, but managed to cross the plate on two occasions. However, Volpe’s 2024 season performance has been solid. He has maintained his .267 average, combining power and speed. Ultimately, if Anthony Volpe sticks with the Yankees and is given the right guidance, he might be a legend in the making. What do you make of Anthony’s role in the Highlanders camp?
