Does Aaron Judge's grand slam prove he's the Yankees' true leader, or is Boone right to push for more?

The New York Yankees game series with the Boston Red Sox was as dramatic as it can be. Whether it’s Geritt Cole’s intentional walk to Rafael Devers or Brayan Bello’s probable attempt to hit Aaron Judge with a pitch – there was no lack of drama. And for the latter incident, the players got involved; the managers too, and not to mention fans from both ends were on top of this story. After suffering a humiliating loss on Saturday, the Yankees turned things around in a big way on Sunday. Between the two rivals, in the end, the Yankees came out as winners as they smashed a solid 5-2 victory against their arch-rival.

Aaron Judge and the team had faced a humiliating loss to the Red Sox with 7-1, so this was redemption for them. Plus, Judge, who was in a long slump, hit his second home run in three days and found himself back in the spotlight. Not like the spotlight ever left him! Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone couldn’t help but marvel at the captain; however, he even pointed out his shortcomings.

Was it just a fluke? This is what many questioned, even after Aaron Judge did the grand slam just a few days prior. But well, Judge is back, believe it or not! His jaw-dropping 445-foot home run at Sunday’s game is a testament to his form. In the third inning, he crushed the pitch from Red Sox pitcher Kutter Crawford. Judge sent the ball roaring towards the glass of the Center Field restaurant. “You’re not going to keep him off the board long, you know, even though I guess it’s long by his standards. But not much. Just not missing a couple of pitches. And that ball he hit today—I mean, that ball is cleaned out of the restaurant out there, batter’s eye,” said Aaron Boone about his captain’s performance.

Aaron Judge’s shot gave the Yankees a 4-0 lead in the game, and it proved Judge’s power and how he could change the game with just a swing. However, Boone felt that although Judge’s performance on Sunday was a no-brainer, he did better on other days. Aaron Boone said, “I felt like Thursday; to me, I thought he had some better swings. And you know, obviously that’s carrying over now these next few days, and no doubt today.”

In the end, though, this triumph was crucial for the Yankees. With this, they have three of four wins in the series against the Red Sox. Plus, they are also leading the Al-East by three games over the Baltimore Orioles. Now they are heading for a three-game series again with the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park starting from Tuesday.

Tempers flare in Yankees-Red Sox showdown

What’s your perspective on:

Does Aaron Judge's grand slam prove he's the Yankees' true leader, or is Boone right to push for more?

Have an interesting take?

The tension between the New York Yankees and Red Sox reached a boiling point over the weekend. They can surely count this into their storied rivalry! After the Yankees’ 7-1 win, Red Sox manager Alex Cora was convinced that Gerrit Cole purposely hit Rafael Devers during his first at-bat. Ahead of Sunday’s game, Cora shocked everyone by saying, It was closed yesterday, like, around the sixth inning, so you know, we had our chance. It didn’t happen. We have to move on.” Were they on a mission? During the sixth inning, Boston Red Sox’s pitcher Brayan Bellow had thrown a pitch to Aaron Judge, and it barely missed the Yankees captain. Now this is serious!

After the reveal, there were lengthy conversations between the Red Sox manager Judge, and Aaron Boone. After all, it’s not a simple matter. Aaron Judge, however, didn’t react much and reflected on it calmly. “It was a good convo. I’ll keep it at that. You play this game for a while, and things like that happen. I know they’re upset that three of their guys got hit that day, and I think they’re just protecting their players.” The rivalry between the baseball giants took a peak for sure. But Aaron Boone was far from cool, and neither was he forgiving of the entire situation. “Yeah, that’s not allowed… That’s for somebody else to deal with. So we’re finished playing with them for now.”

On Sunday, ahead of the game, Boone mentioned that Gerrit was not throwing at the Red Sox player. As for the rivalry, we probably won’t see the duo face-to-face this year at least. The Red Sox has to pull a miracle run in the last stretch of the 12 remaining games to make it to the playoffs. For now, the fire of the teams to prove one another probably has to wait till 2025.
