It has barely been a day since James Rowson joined the Yankees as their new hitting coach, but he seems to already be in action. It turns out that Rowson has already got in touch with the Yankee squad, including star slugger Giancarlo Stanton.
Thirty-four-year-old Stanton has been a significant name in the world of baseball but has struggled of late due to injuries. On top of that, his form hasn’t been among the best, as the 6’6″ Californian has averaged a mere .191 in the 2023 season. Being an essential cog in the wheel of the Yankees lineup, this has certainly got the alarm bells ringing. And it’s no surprise that the new coach has his focus right where it needs to be.

During an interview, James Rowson revealed that he had exchanged texts with the designated hitter. He said, “Let’s talk, hear what he (Stanton) has to say. I think one of the biggest attributes of a hitting coach is not always what you know, but sometimes it’s listening. Listening is a big key factor in this, hearing guys and understanding where they’re coming from, because it’ll help you guide their path to success at times. So I can’t wait.” He added, “I’m excited about him. I hope he’s looking forward to it. We’ll sit down, we’ll talk, and then we’ll kind of go from there.”

It was 2014 when ‘Bigfoot’ signed a 13-year, $325,000,000 deal with the Pinstripes after an impressive showing for the Marlins in the earlier seasons. Initially, he did live up to his reputation, but of late, he has been woefully out of color. And that hasn’t sat well with many in the management, and criticism has been coming his way, including from the general manager.

Cashman’s valid criticism
Yankee GM Brian Cashman, known for his brashness, had his own two cents about Stanton. Cashman described the five-time All-Star as being injury-prone and expressed frustration at being unable to do anything about it. And this time, he isn’t wrong. Ever since joining the Yankees, Stanton has been a regular visitor to the injury list; in the last four seasons, he has missed 223 of a total of 546 matches, missing over a third of all games.
