The much-awaited substitution is done. Earlier this month, bench coach Carlos Mendoza, moved on from the role of a New York Yankees bench coach joining the Mets as a Manager. This move created an immediate vacancy in the Bronx, and the position has now been successfully filled with hopes running too high for 2025.

The club announced today that Brad Ausmus would be joining to fill up the position. Ausmus, who returns to his debut organization, has five years of MLB managerial experience. Back in 1987, he started his career with the Yanks as they picked him up in the 48th round. That’s not the only key point to note about the 54-year-old.

@BNightengale posted a tweet making predictions for the 2025 managerial openings. His tweet read, “Brad Ausmus has been a finalist three times for two Astros’ managerial jobs and one GM job. This should put him in prime position for managerial vacancies in 2025”. Could this mean something for the Yankees? While the managerial vacancy is still far away, the team could use his help plenty given his past contribution to the world of MLB.

The native of Connecticut played for four teams during his eighteen-year playing career. Having won three Gold Gloves for the Astros in 2001, 2002, and 2006, he was also an All-Star. This was in 1999, when he played for the Detroit Tigers, American League. Given his association with Houston he was also a suitable candidate for the Astros’ general manager position. But he wound up in the 2nd place to Dana Brown. Well, this summed up the 3rd time the Astros turned the other way from Ausmus.

Nevertheless, the Carlos Mendoza-replacement comes with an experience of managing the Tigers from 2014 to 2017. He led  the AL Central in his rookie campaign with a 90-72 record prior to the Orioles eliminating them in the ALDS. With a credible background like Ausmus’, what happens after Aaron Boone’s contract ends in 2024 is in question.
