Jasson Dominguez came as a breath of fresh air to the Yankees’ roster. He’s young, talented, and potent enough to be the future showstopper, and the Yankees have high hopes for him. Debuted in the major league in 2023, Dominguez burst out to the scene as a starting-caliber outfielder who can provide power and speed, especially in the case of a right-handed pitcher.

He is yet to play for a full year as a major, and the Yankees are projecting him as their top prospect and wannabe breakout star. Yes, his plate discipline does the talking, but is it too soon to declare him a breakout star? Despite being snubbed from 2025’s top breakout star list, the Yankees fans are most optimistic about Dominguez entering 2025. The 2025 batch of breakout stars by Talkin’ Baseball features the Orioles’ Jackson Holliday, Twins’ Matt Wallner, Angels’ Logan O’Hoppe, Nationals’ Dylan Crews, Pirates’ Nick Gonzales, and Dodgers’ Hyeseong Kim.

Each of these names caught enough attention in the MLB circuit, but how are they ahead of Dominguez? Holliday had played a total of 63 games last year, which was also his debut year, and amassed 5 HRs and 23 RBIs, while Wallner stroked 13 HRs and 37 RBIs. The first two featured names are ahead of Dominguez in terms of games played and runs scored. Till now, Jasson Dominguez got to play a total of 7 games with 4 HRs and 7 RBIs. So numbers are still not at par with the featured names here.

Only Dylan Crews from this list scored similarly to Dominguez with 3 HRs and 8 RBIs, but he is also the #1 prospect according to the MLB pipeline. Even though Dominguez is showing much potential and talent, it seems the breakout star list featured amateurs with a minimum of runs scored and games played. 2025 will be the first starting year for Dominguez as a major; his minor league stint highlights what he is capable of. He played a total of 305 games at minors and amassed 38 HRs, 54 doubles, and 86 SBs out of 104 attempts.

What’s ahead for Dominguez?

Dominguez is riding high on the fans’ expectations, so much so that as per SB Nation Reacts, he tops the list with 44% votes among all the Yankees’ players in terms of whom the fans are most optimistic about entering 2025. He announced his arrival on the big stage by scoring a home run from his very first bat swing and becoming the youngest player in MLB history to have scored a home run on his debut. Hence, Dominguez possesses enough talent to shine in the long run, and he will be one of the special talents to watch out for. The Yankees would just hope that he can replicate his minor-league performance this time.

This year, attention will be on Dominguez also because of his bat speed, which gets compared with that of the legend Mickey Mantle. Well, it’s debatable if the time is too soon to compare Dominguez with a legend, but certainly, he has some power to look at. His temperament during high-leverage situations will be key to success for Jasson Dominguez. Considering the long and grueling MLB seasons, Dominguez is going to be an effective asset for the Yankees, and if he can stay true to his talent, 2025 will witness the rise of a new star.
