Some rivalries are deeper than one can imagine. Such is the case with the New York Yankees. It’s a common belief that a true Yankees fan can never come to like their arch-nemesis. Whether others feel the same way or not Derek Jeter is steadfast in that belief. Be it for him or his newborn son, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets will have a hard time impressing them.?

The 5X world champion talks with confidence about where his sons? fandom would not lean toward. Though New York is currently suffering, the Yankee in him seeps down to his son making him a thorough NY fan, but definitely not another.?

Confidently, Derek Jeter Knows Which Teams His Son Will not Support

In a recent interview with the New York Post, Derek Jeter answered some deep questions about life, kids, and baseball. The host played out a hypothetical scenario where his 5-month-old would end up saying, ?I?m a Red Sox fan? or ?I?m a Mets fan?. To that, Jeter had a firm answer. Knowing that he appreciates any other team more than the Mets or the Red Sox, he said, ?It?ll never happen. It just wouldn?t happen. There?s a lot of things in life that are certainties and that?s about as certain as you can get?. The conversation furthered.?

Upon being asked why he wouldn?t entitle Kaius Green Jeter to his own opinions, Jeter smugly said adding some humor, ?On some things. You?re entitled to have your own opinion on some things?. He also added that the reason he considers the Yankees in such high regard is that there is no National League team per him that could beat the 1998 Yanks. The confidence that he spoke with reflected the unrelinquished rivalry with the Red Sox even after a decade of retirement.?

Amidst discussing Yankees supremacy a couple of other noteworthy questions came up. One of which was about the rare, unicorn-like Shohei Ohtani. Jeter’s take on one of the most iconic free agencies was quite astounding.?

Derek Jeter’s Take On Shohei Ohtani’s Free Agency Moves

Amid questions about the burning rivalry, the host took a different take and asked the 49-year-old what George Steinbrenner would have done to obtain Ohtani in case he was alive at this point in time. Jeter chuckled and said that George could even go to the extent of ending up at Ohtani?s home. His words were, ?If he wanted him bad, he would do anything it took in order to get him in pinstripes?. He also shed some light on the likes of Ohtani signing the Mets.?

Though quite neutral the former Yankee said, that wherever Ohtani goes, he should have the opportunity of playing in the postseason. Especially since he made an early exit in 2023 owing to his injury. Jeter went on to commend the 29-year-old for his play in the World Baseball Classic, however, did not highlight the possibility of him joining the Mets.?
