In a small account written by Derek Jeter himself and published by Sports Illustrated’s Vault, he talked about how he couldn’t complete his college degree to pursue his baseball dreams. Moreover, the 30-year-old Jeter, spoke about how he would love to go back to school and relive what American Comedian did in the movie Back to School.
Derek Jeter once wanted to go back to school
At the age of four, the Jeter family moved away from New Jersey and went to Kalamazoo, Michigan. At the young age of five, Derek started playing the little leagues. And eventually, he left his University of Michigan degree midway through to continue chasing a successful career in baseball.
Jeter spoke about how he would love to return to school, the same way American comedian Rodney Dangerfield did in the movie Back to School. He said, “I never got my degree from Michigan because my baseball career took off, but I’d like to return some day, like Rodney Dangerfield did in Back to School. I’m not sure if I could see myself sitting in classes when I’m 40 years old, though.”
While Captain Clutch never actually returned to school, he eventually moved to achieve the greatest of heights in the ballpark through the Pinstripe jersey.
