A few nights ago, when the New York Yankees took on the Minnesota Twins, starting pitcher Domingo German was interrupted due to an excessive amount of rosin on his hand. Even after a second interruption, the pitcher was allowed to continue, and when the Twins skipper Rocco Baldelli raised discontent, the home plate umpire just threw him out. Now, as the Mets took on the Dodgers, the home-plate umpire Dan Bellino and crew chief Phil Cuzzi interrupted Max Scherzer in the middle of the second and believed that his hand was too sticky.
Initially, Scherzer was asked to go wash his hands with alcohol. Scherzer complied and washed his hands in front of an MLB official, but when he returned to the mound, Cuzzi claimed his glove was sticky with a foreign substance. After asking him to change his glove, in the fourth inning again, the 8-time All-Star Scherzer argued that he had only used legal rosin on his hands, but Cuzzi ejected him in the fourth inning for illegally using a foreign substance, leading to a heated argument between Scherzer and Cuzzi.
If Domingo German didn’t get ejected, why was Max Scherzer thrown out?

Surprisingly, the Mets skipper Buck Showalter didn’t stand up for Scherzer, as the umpire ejected him at the end of the fourth. Moreover, this ejection could also lead to a ten-game suspension for Scherzer, which adds to the Mets’ rotation worries with Justin Verlander on the IL from the start of 2023.

After the game, Scherzer spoke about his ejection and probable suspension, and said, “I knew I was going to get checked in the fourth. So, I’d have to be an absolute idiot to try to do anything when I’m coming back out for the fourth.”
The Mets’ ace continued to add, “He said my hand is too sticky. I said, ‘I swear on my kids’ lives, I’m not using anything else. This is sweat and rosin. Sweat and rosin.’ I keep saying it over and over, and they touch my hand, they say it’s sticky. I say, ‘Yes, it is, because it’s sweat and rosin.’ And they say it’s too sticky. They threw me out because of that.”
Fans were furious, to say the least. Instantly, they pointed out the fact that Domingo German continued to throw even after the umpires had an issue for the second time.
This is how fans reacted:
So Yankees get a free pass ????

It probably transferred to the glove. No matter what, MLB is too focused on the wrong kind of rule enforcement. How about more focus on accurate plate umpiring? Across the board.

I mean… either let him wash his hands or leave him in the game… German remained in the NYY game this weekend because “rosin was legal…” players association is going to have to step in soon https://t.co/1uqCPTPIYz
