Aaron Judge and his New York Yankees had a tough 2023. Not only did they miss out on the Postseason, they barely managed to have a winning record, something they’ve always had since 1993. From team management to roster configuration, the Yankees made mistakes after mistakes. So the captain himself decided to take matters into his own hands. During a recent interview, he talked about the team and singled out one player for praise. It was the young rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe.

Like the entire team, Volpe too had a tough season. He struggled with an inconsistent performance throughout the season. Hence Aaron Judge showing appreciation for him comes as a huge sign of belief that the team has on the young player.

The New York Yankees currently are struggling. Years of bad recruiting and neglect of squad refreshment have had a terrible impact on the team. The only bright lights amidst this time of ordeal are the promising young talents who are showing their immense potential. Anthony Volpe is one of those young talents. Through these young talents, the management and the fans see a future where the team can regain its lost glory.

This is exactly what “All Rise” Aaron Judge felt when he talked about Anthony Volpe. When asked about Volpe, Aaron had nothing but praise for the young man.

“I know he definitely doesn’t want to be hitting .[209] for his first season — I know he’s not happy about that,” Judge said. “I think he’s had an impressive year so far, but we’re only seeing the beginning. He’s going to come out with a bang next year.” He said.

Aaron Judge himself knows a thing or two about being a rookie. So he knows that for a struggling young player, this type of show of belief by the captain can be a huge boost. The Yankees need their captain more than anything to step up right now and Aaron Judge is doing just that.

Anthony Volpe’s tough year at the Yankees

The Yankees started this season with much fanfare and expectations. That they ended the season on a whimper was a shock for the entire fan base. Anthony Volpe too was expected to be a Star Rookie signing but like the team, his performance lacked consistency.

The 22-year-old showed glimpses of his great potential, hitting 21 home runs in his rookie year. Apart from this, his fielding performance was impressive enough for him to get nominated for the Gold Glove. Still, these glimpses were few and far between the sea of inconsistency. His batting average of mere .209 reflects the struggles that he had during the season. But he was not alone, the entire batting lineup of the Yankees underperformed.
