Brian Cashman has a big battle ahead of him. New York Yankees GM called this winter crucial

Earlier in November during the GM Meetings, Brian Cashman’s presser was an epicenter of controversies. The Yankees faithful were up in arms over him defending the management even after an underwhelming season. During that meeting, one quote did show that he knew that the Bronx Bombers needed to do something big this offseason. MLB insider Bryan Hoch pointed it out in his Yankees Beat newsletter recently.

“Whatever we say as a franchise right now is not going to appease anybody. It’s about what we’re going to do to improve the roster and our situation going into the ’24 season.” Cashman told the press. This was in response to the fans questioning and demanding him to change his line of work.

This could’ve been just words but the recent actions of the Yankees do paint a somewhat favorable picture for Cashman. While they haven’t announced any signing or trade yet, they are linked with big players. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Juan Soto, and Cody Bellinger are some of the stars the Pinstripes are actively going after.

While the general manager has made a few changes backstage, especially by hiring Brad Ausmus as Bench Coach, he needs to make major player signings next. Even more so after the developments that came with the last season.

Juan Soto, Yamamoto, and a Quest for World Series

The Bronx Bombers are going through one of their longest trophy droughts. The last time they won or appeared in a World Series was in 2009. With Soto and Yamamoto they are hoping to catapult themselves back to being contenders. However, they need more than just these two players.

Since Michael King became a rotational pitcher, this calls for an additional arm to strengthen the bullpen. Even after Soto, they would require at least one more outfielder as Jasson Dominguez will miss nearly half of the season due to Tommy John surgery.

The Pinstripes’ quest for their 28th championship will surely be one of the chief stories of 2024.
