The New York Yankees’ phenomenal ace Gerrit Cole is as serious on the mound as his job requires him to be, but off of it, he’s known to be quite a jolly person. The AL Cy Young awardee is famous for his charms, be they in the clubhouse or outside, say, at a certain former teammate’s wedding. He decided to carry on his happy vibe into the festival of joy – albeit in a peculiar manner.

Jalynne Crawford, Cole’s sister-in-law, recently shared a story on her Instagram that was shared by the Talkin’ Yanks on their Twitter (now X) page. In the video, the pitcher was seen taking a different route for celebrating Christmas together with his family (of which a certain MLB star is a part). In a very Cole-like way, the ace didn’t forget to keep the Yankee spirit alive, even miles away from the diamond!

“No off season” for Gerrit Cole and family!

In the video that is tagged with the caption “No off season,” Gerrit Cole is seen playing catch with the Giants’ star shortstop, Brandon Crawford. Crawford being Cole’s brother-in-law through his marriage to Amy, the incident proved to be quite an unconventional way to spend Christmas Eve together with their family.

The end of the video tags a beautiful picture of the entire family of Coles and Crawfords, highlighting a precious offseason moment. As Mrs. Crawford has put it, the players really don’t see the face of the offseason with their ongoing practices and plethora of appearances to make across various sports platforms. It doesn’t seem like they would want to, either.

If their latest field records are any proof, neither Gerrit Cole nor his brother-in-arm Brandon Crawford would let their form slip away when they are off the field.

Keeping the form intact comes easy to them

Gerrit Cole ended this year on a winning note, despite his team’s evidently disappointing performance in past games. Cole Train racked up an ERA as low as 2.63, striking out 222 times in 209 innings. The ace scored the record in the 33 games he played this season, with a WHIP of 0.981.

This dazzling record led to Cole’s first Cy Young win, which was a unanimous decision for obvious reasons. His brother-in-law, Brandon Crawford, on the other hand, might not have won any awards this year, but his past awards, along with his career stats, act as proof of the powerhouse he is.

Crawford racked up a total of 146 homers and 744 RBIs with an average OPS of .715 in his 13-year-long career. The star shortstop also won his fourth Gold Glove in 2021, after consecutively winning the previous three between 2015 and 2017. It seems like Gerrit Cole made the right choice by focusing on their gameplay during the festive season, don’t you think? The 2024 games are almost knocking at their doors, after all!
