Jeter did not want to be a distraction for teammates and was always focused on winning. But the legendary shortstop once got into a sticky situation after retiring. In fact, he broke the law and reportedly found himself in trouble with the United States Air Force.
Derek Jeter found himself in a restricted area while boating

In 2016, Derek Jeter had been retired for two years and seemed to be enjoying his life away from baseball. But the Yankee legend found himself in trouble while boating in the waters around Davis Islands. While boating, Jeter entered a restricted area near MacDill Air Force Base, thereby breaking the law.
According to Tampa Bay Times, Jeter was issued a citation “by the U.S. Air Force for boating into a restricted area near MacDill Air Force Base. Air Force security forces stopped Jeter just before 5:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July.” Furthermore, he was also given “a ticket that carries a $250 fine plus a $30 processing fee”.

The incident was a rare time when Jeter got himself into trouble. The Yankee great has been a model citizen his whole life. Even during his playing days, he was not one to break the law. Furthermore, he was too busy practicing to get into trouble.
Jeter put winning before anything else
Although Derek Jeter did party on and off, he put winning before anything else. He never got into trouble during the off-season and was always working on his game. The former Yankee star was known for his legendary work ethic and focus on winning titles. But the biggest reason that Jeter avoided trouble was to prevent him and his teammates from getting distracted. But he did think he was in trouble during one of his most iconic moments.
