Here’s how the sales pitch for the the 25-year-old went. Apart from him being the starting pitcher for the Mets, if the team won, he would be the hero, “you’re the man“. The next reason would be ‘familiarity’. The link here is Kodai Senga, who could help the Orix Buffaloes star to ease into the team. Not only would he provide a great cushioning for the new comer but also show him where the “real Original Rays Pizza is“. On that light now, he transitioned into explaining the final two reasons.
It would be an easy guess, “the money“. Jon Hein emphasized that no one would pay him that much. He also pulled up an anecdote when Steve Cohen flew to take him to a French-Japanese dinner. And questioned, who else had done that for him. He also mentioned that if the need be, the Mets could even start a dedicated airlines for Yamamoto. Moving on to point number four, he said, “did I mention the money?.. Yoshi, this is a no-brainer.” With that, he summed up how passionately happy the camp would be if #18 chose them.
Here’s What the Fans Had to Say
The fans’ reaction to this tweet was more than enough to sum up the common emotion that New York felt about the possibility of having two superstars in their city. Juan Soto and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Some fans seemed to buy the sales pitch.
Well said!

A few other fans highlighted the new trend of “#Yamasoto” in the Bronx.
It's the new trend #Yamasoto lol. Let's scream it in the BRONX!

On the flip side, fans did feel that this plea was a stretch.
Him being your #1 is not a selling point. It's his first year in the bigs, he wants to get familiarized with everything.

Another fan weighed in their opinion about being a great Yankee vs. being a great Met.
What Mets fans don’t seem to grasp is that outside of the Mets fanbase everyone knows that being a great Yankee draws more attention than being a great Met

Certain fans even highlighted the possibility of him benefitting equally as a Yankees with the same kind of points in the pitch Hein made.
Or you could be part of the team to bring the Yankees their first title since 2009, learn from Gerritt Cole and still get paid.

With that, the choice is yet to be made. On one hand the Mets could use Yamamoto’s service to make it to the play offs and potentially win the World Series. One the other, it would be interesting to the amalgamation of YamaSoto in the Pinstripes.

Either way, this young Japanese star’s free agency is one that is creating all the buzz. Both the NY teams are likely to bag him, as per reports. However, only time will tell.
