Derek Jeter was statistically one of the most successful shortstops in baseball history. He enthralled the fans and enriched the sport. There was once a teammate of his, who resembled him on many fronts if not all, including the fielding position. And it was none other than former Yankee Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez.

Few fortunate teams in sporting history have had two or more megastar athletes playing together in the same lineup. The New York Yankees have remained one of those teams. Notably, Jeter and A-Rod played together for over a decade in the Bronx while being global ambassadors of the sport.

Back in 2014, after Jeter bid farewell to the game, he gave an honest yet diplomatic opinion about his Yankee teammate A-Rod. It is not a secret that their friendship didn’t always have smooth sailing.

An unfiltered reply from Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter was not just a great baseball player, he was more of an avid sports lover. As soon as he retired in 2014, Jeter launched his sports media platform,  The Players Tribune. The media site covers interviewed content on players from various sports. Stories about the players in their words include written pieces, podcasts, and video graphic presentations.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Jeter got asked if he would ever invite Alex Rodriguez for a contribution. Speaking on the matter back in 2015, Jeter said, “No, I’m not going to start calling people like I’m a member of the media and say, ‘Hey, I’ve got this idea for you.’ I would not be comfortable doing that with anyone. I don’t view myself as being a member of the media.”

Interestingly, though Jeter and Rodriguez remained friends for a long time before playing together, they once had a fallout.

How did the feud among the friends begin?

The cold war started after Rodriguez made some hurtful comments about Jeter in a 2001 interview with Sports Illustrated magazine. Jeter even mentioned the fact of getting bothered by those comments. Nonetheless, Jeter and Rodriguez still maintained contact even beyond their playing careers. Rodriguez also made an appearance in Jeter’s docuseries titled ‘The Captain’.
