Another day another set of fans complaining against an umpire. While the 2024 season’s not being overly predictable, there’s at least one thing that happens nearly every week. That thing is – umpires make mistakes and fans notice it immediately. Something similar has happened once again and this time it was the San Francisco Giants who had to suffer because of it.

With the Bay Bombers already struggling to create a good run (injuries and bad form have made it a difficulty), not even having umpire’s calls going to their favor, things look bleak in the Bay Area. That was evident in their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, where the Giants went from leading to losing due to a bunch of factors. The biggest one being (at least according to the fans) – the umpire’s wrong calls.

Umpire Auditor revealed on its X post that umpire Dan Bellino had a nightmarish performance in last night’s game. Bellino missed 18 calls! But what’s even more shocking is out of those 15 went against the Giants. However, the worst one came in the 9th inning – which may have turned the game on its head.

As the 9th inning began the Bay Bombers were ahead 6-2 against the Pirates. However, their closers couldn’t really completely shut the game. As a result, the Pirates began filling the bases. The issue came when Jared Triolo was given a bad call (a ball instead of a K) and suddenly all the bases were filled. As a result, the Pirates scored 4 runs in that inning and picked up the win in the 10th one.

18 wrong calls have boggled the minds of almost every baseball fan. Though it isn’t anything new (unfortunately), the issue is that there’s almost nothing being done to fix it (at least in the immediate future). Though talks of robot umpires have to abound, there are still a few tweaks to be made to that technology. So unsurprisingly the fans once again made their feelings known on social media.

San Francisco Giants fans in utter disbelief after the umpire’s shocking show

There are a few moments that unite fans from different teams – umpires making errors is one of those moments. The Bay Bombers Faithful had some shocking words for Dan Bellino. “Bro has Pirates money line,” a fan commented. That claim proves the extreme frustration within the Giants fanbase.

“This has to be the worst game I’ve seen this year,” another fan wrote. Certainly watching your team lose due to bad decision-making could be heartbreaking. “Something needs to be done about this!! It’s time for Robo balls and strike umpiring!” a user demanded. Fans have been clamoring for these revolutionary changes for a long time.

“Some really bad calls here. Very tough loss for the Giants,” a baseball fan said. For the Bay Bombers, this loss has made their road to the playoffs even more difficult. And finally, “We will get over it, unlike LA fans,” a San Francisco Giants fan commented. So it seems even after a heartbreak, they can’t stop trolling their rivals (though one wonders if the Dodgers care after their current success). As it stands, the umpires’ relationship with fans is becoming more and more contentious. Can things improve or are we headed towards a path with no return?
