With Rumors of a 6-Year Contract with Fox Sports, Has Derek Jeter Officially Said Goodbye to His Yankees Front Office Role?

Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees seem like two sides of the same coin. Though the player has long severed his connection with the team officially, fans still want him to be in the Bronx. Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone have disappointed thoroughly these last few years, and many want the Captain back. Jeter’s front-office experience with the Miami Marlins makes him the perfect candidate to make a comeback in Pinstripes. But recent reports spell out a different future.

Captain Clutch regaled fans with his Fox Sports broadcasting role alongside former teammate Alex Rodriguez and ex-rival David Ortiz. Though Jeter didn?t reveal his plans to return to the studio the next season, The New York Post?s Andrew Marchand did.

Derek Jeter Bidding Goodbye To the Yankees for Fox Sports

The former Yankees captain has finished his ?rookie? season with Fox Sports this year. At the end of the World Series, his former teammate cum co-broadcaster A-Rod asked him if he would come back. In reply, the legend said, ?I don?t know yet, we?ll see.? This gave many a ray of hope that Derek Jeter may join the Yankees’ front office this season. But Andrew Marchand reported something very different.

Per The Post, Jeter will not only come back to Fox Sports, but he will be on a long journey with them. He wrote Jeter has completed ?his rookie season of a multimillion-dollar Fox Sports contract, which is for a total of six years according to sources.? The 5x World Series Champion is apparently ?committed to TV for the long haul.?

If this is the case, then Bronx Bombers fans will again be disappointed with a failing front office. Jeter can?t continue to be a broadcaster while being the front-office person of the Yanks. Though he contributed his wisdom and skills to the progress and improvement of the Miami Marlins during his ownership period, he probably won?t do that for the Yankees.

The possibility of his return as a TV broadcaster seems logical, as the studio seemed fun and sometimes emotional during the postseason and Fall Classic. Baseball viewers got to see a different side of the Hall of Famer that was absent in his playing days. However, Jeter’s time on TV was not safe from criticism.

Captain Clutch and the Cow Boy Hat Controversy

David Ortiz, the co-host of Jeter, was lively throughout the season. His bizarre activities created waves of laughter online as well as among his Fox crew. During ALCS Game 5 between the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, the Red Sox legend offered all his co-broadcasters cowboy hats for the Southern theme. But the ex-Yankees shortstop refused, stating it wasn’t what New Yorkers did.

Later, he cleared everything up stating it was scripted, posting a picture wearing the black cowboy hat on X (formerly Twitter). But critics ripped him off for his behavior nevertheless. However, nothing seemed to hamper the bonding of the three MLB legends and their contract with the broadcasting channel.

Jeter?s return is not yet confirmed, as the channel is still silent about this issue. But Bronx fans keep hope alive.
