Philadelphia has seen a great amount of baseball talent come and go. The Phillies currently hold two World Series championships and are coming off of a stellar 2022 season. Which was largely thanks to designated hitter Bryce Harper. Much like any baseball team, the Phillies have said goodbye to many ballplayers over the years. One of them was pitcher Adam Morgan, who elected free agency in 2020.

After short stints with the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros, Morgan recently announced some big news. With seven MLB seasons under his belt, the 33-year-old pitcher is retiring.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the last time Morgan played was in 2022. After signing a minor-league contract with the Astros, the pitcher opted out of it in May last year. Before that came a one-year stint with the Cubs and six years in Philly. With a debut that left fans and critics with conflicted feelings, Morgan continued to give a subpar performance.

He’s now willingly retiring after tossing 369 2/3 innings over 233 games with both Philadelphia and Chicago teams. Soon after getting selected by the Phillies in the 2011 draft, Morgan had to undergo surgery that made him miss the 2014 season. After debuting in MLB in June 2015, more injuries presented themselves in 2019.

After low chances of making it in MLB after the Astros deal, Morgan elected to be a free agent. Now, it seems like he has decided to take off his glove for the last time. Despite his shaky debut, fans are sad to see him go.

Philadelphia Phillies fans feel bittersweet about Morgan’s announcement

The Phillies took the pitcher off their 40-man roster in 2021, which led him to Chicago. Since it has been a while since Morgan pitched in a Major League game, some fans were confused when the news was announced.

Most wished him good luck for the future.

Some fans even shared fond memories of Morgan.
