Within days of signing the biggest superstar in the MLB free agency market, the Los Angeles Dodgers are in the process of securing another ace for their dugout. Tyler Glasnow, one of the best starting pitchers in the majors, is all set to become a Boy in Blue for the upcoming season. The picurrent team, the Tampa Bay Rays, has agreed to a trade deal with the Dodgers, per reports. However, the slugger’s injurious history may turn out to be a big hurdle to overcome.

Glasnow is part of a deal that also includes Manuel Margot, a veteran outfielder for the Rays. How is the deal going to work out for our favorite baby giraffe in the long run?

According to MLB.com, the Dodgers are expected to offer Tyler Glasnow a contract extension upon entering the team. It is yet to be seen whether there are going to be any long-term offers on the table. Glasnow has a history of never made more than 21 starts or pitched for more than 120 innings in any of the seasons in his 8-year-long career. Incidentally, his recent surgery may play a big role in the team’s decision to keep the ace.

The Blue Crew were in dire need of a starting pitcher as their most recent hire, Shohei Ohtani, will not be able to pitch until 2025. The team solved their pitching dilemma by setting up a trade-in for Glasnow. However, it is yet to be seen how he will perform in 2024, considering that the pitcher is still recovering from the Tommy John surgery he underwent back in August 2021. He got his throwing arm injured with a flexor strain and a partial tear in the ulnar collateral ligament. How much has the injury affected his form in the past year?

2023 was a year of comebacks for Glasnow

Tyler Glasnow has a tendency to dominate opposing hitters with his dynamic fastballs and a couple of breaking balls played with swing-and-miss throws. Although both of his pitching styles were evident this season, the ace was once again held back for two months by a left oblique strain. He didn’t take much time to revert to his form, though.

Glasnow struck out 162 with a 3.53 ERA across 120 innings pitched, with 21 starts this season. This marks the highest number of starting games in a single-season record of his career.
