Saturday night?s game was not a good one for the Rangers, especially for their starting pitcher. The 30-year-old pitched six innings, but the outcome was not what the team and the fans expected. He gave up four runs and nine hits that finally brought the team a brutal 9-1 defeat.
It’s not uncommon to have bad form on some days but Texas cannot afford it during this crucial match-up. Throughout the entire Game 2, Montgomery was not in the rhythm he has shown throughout the postseason. Just a week back, Gumby was at his peak. He pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief to contribute to his team?s ALCS win. But the dominance was somewhat lost in the latest game.
However, it?s not the time to get upset. Five games remain before a winner can be decided. So, Montgomery also has his chances to mark his spot in the World Series fight. As he started Game 2, there?s only a slim chance that he will start Game 3. Since Game 4 will see Nathan Eovaldi back, Monty has a chance to make a return in Game 5. The opportunity is there for him to grab if only he takes it.?Despite the turmoil, the pitcher also just achieved a huge milestone.

By pitching six innings in World Series Game 2, Monty joins Greg Maddux, who did the same in the 1996 World Series against the New York Yankees. Montgomery is the first person to reach this point since then. With yet another record, the Rangers player also joins Yu Darvish.
He was the last starter since 2017 who pitched in a Fall Classic game without any strikeouts. Six years later, the Rangers? pitcher joined him in a not-so-proud moment.
