Even today, PEDs are a touchy subject in MLB lore. With legends of the game scorning players who used such concoctions, many stars have been pushed aside and denied a place among MLB’s very best. One such icon is none other than Alex Rodriguez, who left an undeniable mark on baseball in the last two decades.
Despite his superstardom and Championship success with the New York Yankees, A-Rod has been denied a spot in Cooperstown. But now, the 696-home run-hitting legend may find a way into the hallows of MLB’s greatest Hall.

With the Hall of Fame ballot coming around and nominations due for 2024, Alex Rodriguez awaits his fate. In his third year on the ballot, the Yankees legend is hoping that he makes it to Cooperstown. With the ballot open and MLB’s top insiders prepared to vote, a debate is buzzing amidst the baseball world. Do players who have taken PEDs deserve to make it? A-Rod is one of those very players, waiting for his chance. Although some voters may have warmed up to A-Rod’s candidacy, it will be an uphill battle.
Rodriguez received 35.7% of the votes, falling well short of the required 75% last year. But it was perhaps a better number than his first year, where the BBWAA had a smaller number at 34.3%. A-Rod’s third time around may not be very different. But with conversations building surrounding players who have used PEDs, he may yet have a chance. In the past, the Yankees legend himself has talked about his Hall of Fame chances being affected due to PED usage.
Despite this, it seems unlikely that the Yankees legend receives the required number to be voted into the Hall of Fame. This need not dissuade A-Rod as he still has 7 years on the ballot after this edition. Furthermore, a steady increase in votes over the years may eventually land him in baseball’s greatest shrine someday, if not this time around.

Alex Rodriguez did in fact use PEDs and that reality cannot be altered. But it does not take away from what is truly a Hall of Fame-worthy career. Over 22 years, A-Rod compiled 3115 hits, 696 home runs, and a whopping 2086 RBIs. Additionally, he was a 3x AL MVP, 14x All-Star and 10x Silver Slugger.
These accolades along with an iconic 2009 World Series Championship solidify and prove A-Rod’s impact. Furthermore, the former slugger’s candid approach to his PED scandal is a refreshing change from the hushed conversations and whispered remarks that usually plague such controversy.
