The Los Angeles Angels finished the 2022 season with 73 wins. That was good enough to land them third in the AL West but far out of the playoff picture. The Angels have had a rough last few years, and have not qualified for the postseason since 2014. Furthermore, this is despite having Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani play for them, two of the biggest stars in MLB.
The Angels have had a decent off-season, adding a few smaller pieces. But their roster has not improved enough. Nevertheless, the latest news may excite Angel’s fans as the 2023 season gets closer.

The Los Angeles Angels started the off-season strong, adding the likes of Hunter Renfroe and Gio Urshela via trade. But that initial buzz has died down and they have stopped making moves. Furthermore, as the 2023 season draws nearer, the Angels are less likely to add any more talent. But in the latest news, their star players Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani have both reported for Spring Training. MLB’s official Twitter account shared the update.

In a Tweet, they said, “Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani have arrived. 😍 #SpringTraining”. This will bode well for the Angels organization. Any chance they have of making the postseason hinges on Trout and Ohtani being healthy and fit for the start of the 2023 season.
Fans reacted to the news and were divided by the news. They don’t believe that the Angels will make the postseason this year and were generally negative about the team.

Earlier in the off-season, Trout enjoyed a getaway in Aspen with his wife. Ohtani similarly enjoyed some time off during his off-season and was seen test-driving Porsche cars. But they will have both been thinking about the 2023 season as it’ll play a big part in their careers.
2023 is a massive season for the Angels as a franchise
In 2023, the Los Angeles Angels will be hoping to break their postseason drought. According to CBS Sports, “They have not been to the postseason since 2014 nor won a postseason game since 2009”. The reason this upcoming season is so important is that Shohei Ohtani will be a free agent in 2024.
