Baseball, steeped in history, has always been an integral part of American culture, and its traditions have been passed down from generation to generation. The Major League Baseball (MLB), in addition to preserving age-old traditions, is also setting new ones that are likely to be followed by future generations. A recent addition to the MLB’s traditions is the city-connect uniforms introduced just a few years ago. These uniforms were designed to connect the teams with their local communities.
The Texas Rangers, a prominent team in the MLB, have recently unveiled their city-connect uniforms. Unfortunately, the unveiling of these jerseys took a rather unpleasant turn as baseball fans began mercilessly criticizing the team for its similarity to other teams’ jerseys.

The team’s city-connect uniform should feature unique designs and color schemes that represent the team’s city, its cultures, landmarks, and traditions. The Rangers, however, got their jersey designed by Nike to pay homage to the Dallas and Fort Worth baseball histories.
The Rangers’ standard uniform colors of white, blue, and red were utilized for their city-connect uniforms, but in paying homage to their history, the resulting jerseys bore an uncanny resemblance to those of the Chicago White Sox. In fact, the Rangers’ new jerseys boast player numbers on one side and ‘TX’ inscribed on the other, a design feature quite reminiscent of the White Sox jerseys. One need only compare the two sets of uniforms side by side to notice the similarities between them.
It didn’t take long for baseball aficionados to catch on. They were quick to voice their opinions about the Rangers’ decision to adopt a jersey style so strikingly similar to that of another MLB team. Consequently, the team faced a harsh backlash from fans who felt they were merely copying another club’s design.
Following are some of the fans’ reactions toward the Texas Rangers’ jersey reveal.

Fans, at times, can be supportive and cruel. Unfortunately, in this case, they have resorted to the latter. Fans have gone to the extremes to mock the MLB franchise before taking a look at the reason behind these jerseys. The fans called out the team for making such jerseys even after taking such a long time. But the fans also reminded others that Texas isn’t even a city. Hence, according to them, there’s no point in the city-connect jerseys.
