Juan Soto was introduced as a New York Yankee for the first time. At a press conference on Tuesday, the biggest acquisition the Yanks made this year opened up about starting the next season in pinstripes. Amid that, he revealed his crucial perspective on a potential contract extension beyond 2024.

It is not a secret that Soto is a one-year rental. While the Yankees make the most of it while it lasts, it does not rule out the possibility of them extending his contract. Throughout the 30-minute conversation, all that Soto focused on was “just to play baseball” until he said what made the ears stand up.

The Dominican outfielder was asked about a potential extension that he could be offered with the Yankees itself. Addressing that he said, “They know where to call and who to talk to. I’m here just to play baseball.” Well, as per Soto’s words, it is Scott Boras, the super agent of MLB, who would be handling this bit with the organization.

Anyone who witnessed the 25-year-0ld talk was sure to be struck by his youth. Not to mention his accomplishments at that age. Well, as someone who was playing a Nintendo game with friends when he heard the news of the trade, he could not have been more excited about being a Yankee. His appearance in the interview spoke volumes about it!

Wearing a brand new Yankees cap, he spoke about focusing on the present and winning. His presence in the lineup strengthens the team and “that’s all I care about’’ said Soto. While, coming onto the field, “thinking about winning every day,” is the main target, what happens after the 2o24 season is something to plan in advance. About that, Scott Boras is not one to rest.

Key Takeaways From Soto’s Words

Do not forget that Scott Boras represents Soto. And it’s extremely likely that Soto will explore free agency once he becomes eligible after the 2024 season. Despite this, the Yankees won’t step back from trying to initiate discussions for a contract extension. After all, they would recall that Soto declined a $440 million offer from the Washington Nationals in the middle of 2022. As much as one would want to guess the answer from his words, the outfielder did a great job at staying diplomatic.

Addressing the subject of continuing in the Bronx even after 2024, he mostly referenced his agent. His words were, “I put everything on him and let him do his magic.” The only next thing that he is concerned about “is to get to know the team, get to know the guys…and try to get the same goal as they want”. Soto, who could earn around $33 million in his last year of arbitration, was humble about the contract. Well, perhaps it is too early for Juan to answer these big questions.
