The Texas Rangers emerged victorious in Game 3 of the World Series, securing a 2-1 series lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, two of their players who got injured in Game 3 have finally cleared the air. After Max Scherzer exited the game early due to a back spasm, the team announced a replacement. Left-handed pitcher Brock Burke would be on the mound instead of Shzerzer. But what is it about the 27-year-old that equates him with Mad Max?

Acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018, the LHP was promoted to major leagues by the Texas Rangers the following year. In 2022, Burke had a breakout journey – recording a 7–5 record with a remarkable 1.97 ERA and striking out 90 batters over 82 and one-third innings, he was named the Rangers’ Rookie of the Year by DFW area BBWAA. Now on the biggest stage of baseball, he has a huge chance to prove his worth once again.

Post Texas Rangers’ removal of outfielder Adolis García from the roster, infielder Ezequiel Durán replaced him at the plate. On the same lines, “Max Scherzer is also coming off the World Series roster..He’ll be replaced by LHP Brock Burke”. At 26 years old, Burke performed with a 5-3 record, maintaining a 4.37 ERA, a 1.223 WHIP, and notably led the team with a 5.78 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 53 games this year.

But Brock Burke only got to pitch for 0.1 inning. He was not as impressive as expected, though he did get Ketel Marte to fly out. But in the following pitches, he gave up 3 straight singles. The manager hoped he would put the game to bed but the Skipper had to pull him out on an untimely basis.

Rangers’ bullpen problems got magnified in Game 4

Though the Texas Rangers won the game and now lead the series 3-1, this match could be a warning sign. The Lone Stars were dominating the game but their poor bullpen again came to focus. After Andrew Heaney was pulled the team’s pitching quality just collapsed. They were leading the game by 11-1, giving up only 4 hits but the tables turned quickly. They gave up 8 hits after his departure and D-Backs ended up scoring 6 runs. This could be a worrying sign for the Rangers.
