Winning the ‘Commissioner’s Trophy’ isn’t an easy feat, and it couldn’t have been proven better than this year’s preliminaries for the World Series. With exciting games like the Philadelphia Phillies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks NLCS Game 3 or the Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros ALCS Game 6, it doesn’t leave much to say about the tough competition the four teams had to go through this postseason. And this year’s World Series best-of-seven is damn sensational, to say the least.

2023 saw the exit of long-time title holders like the Astros and Dodgers. Now, the trophy is up for grabs for two of the most promising teams in the MLB: the Rangers and the D-Backs. However, one of them is suffering from a World Series title drought for the longest time in history.

Texas Rangers’ luck’s drier than the desert

One of the only six teams that never got it, the Texas Rangers have been trying their luck at getting hold of the Commissioner’s Trophy since their inception in 1961. They are the second oldest team to have never won the World Series, the first being the Cleveland Guardians, who have not won the championship since 1948.

More so, the Lone Stars of MLB didn’t make the playoffs until 1996. Their first successful World Series attempt in 2010 was cut short by the San Francisco Giants. The Giants were managed by the current Rangers’ manager, Bruce Bochy, back then. Their second attempt at getting the title in the following year failed spectacularly, as they lost their lead on Game 6 against St. Louis Cardinals, losing any chance to get Game 7 by the end of the play that day.

Fast forward to 2023, defeating longtime World Series contenders like the Houston Astros is not just a masterstroke but a bold move, given the Rangers’ disappointing history. Thanks to Ray Davis’ interference, the team has been getting back in shape since last year. With the smart signing and drafting of high-prospect players like Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford, for instance, their constant effort at improving the team’s lineup is very apparent. But will it be enough to get the gold?

The Texas Rangers had a magnificent season this year. Players like Corey Seager, Adolis García, Marcus Semien, and Jonah Heim are leading the team’s offense and defense lineups, delivering one clutch performance after another throughout most of their games.

Their form in ALDS, ALCS and WS Game 1 is such an instance. With performances like that in tow, their chances of winning the World Series this year have significantly improved. Will the Cowboys’ dream to rule MLB finally come true?
