The grand magnitude of Derek Jeter’s personal triumphs as a baseball player made him a sporting royalty. There are almost no limits to his financial might. So, he once bought an expensive car, which ultimately caused him some headaches instead. Back in 2004, Jeter shared the tale in an interview.

Jeter remained the New York Yankees shortstop throughout his MLB career. He reaped the benefits of his loyalty. The Yankees are among the richest of elite sporting franchises. Therefore, Jeter’s dedicated contributions received profitable returns from his term contract. 

A man fond of luxuries, Jeter once bought a Hummer for himself. However, it rather caused him some inconvenience in terms of maintenance. During Jeter’s interview with Playboy magazine in 2004, he gave detailed information about the incidents following his purchase. 

Derek Jeter’s luxurious purchase that cost him a lot 

Derek Jeter was amidst the fourth year of a $189 million 10-year Yankees contract in 2004. In that particular year, he got paid $19 million as per his contract deal. Therefore, amongst numerous other topics, Jeter’s costly assets made it to the interview. So, back then, Playboy magazine columnist Diane K. Shah asked Jeter about his extravagant acquisitions.

Jeter replied to the query saying, “I get things for other people. But for myself I have a Hummer, a Ferrari and a Mercedes 600. I got this house six, seven years ago, and I’m not planning on leaving. I have a nice apartment in New York.” He lived in a posh mansion in Miami during that time.

Diane then pointed out to a satellite dish on the roof of the Hummer. Jeter then followed up by saying, “I just had DirecTV put in. Only now it won’t fit in my garage. I’ve got to build a bigger garage.” 

The glorious MLB career of Derek Jeter 

Jeter made his MLB debut with the Yankees in 1995. He was equally impressive with the bat and his fielding skills. Becoming a 14-time All-Star player, he also won five World Series championships. He retired in 2014 and saw his jersey honorably retired by the Yankees administration in 2017. In addition, Jeter is a monument park honoree and an MLB Hall Of Fame inductee.
