Derek Jeter had a legendary baseball career. He won multiple championships and accolades with the Pinstripes. Although it’s his zeal and hard work for success that made Jeter a superstar according to him, the situation could have been different had he did not sign for the New York Yankees.

In his book, “The Life You Imagine,” the former Pinstripes captain shared how the Yankees organization helped him to have a successful career. He also focused on the critical lesson he learned from the late owner George Steinbrenner, starting from the minors.

It is a general fact that self-belief and continuous hard work are key to success. But when you become a part of an organization, the surrounding environment has a big say in how things will move. The Yankees are one of the most successful teams in the MLB. Their organization, including their owners, had a crucial role in it.

Focusing on the same, on page 179 of “The Life You Imagine,” Jeter shared, “I have a lot of respect for Mr. Steinbrenner because he wants to be successful, and he expects everyone in the organization to be as dedicated and focused as he is. This is something you learn the first day you sign with the Yankees.”

He also shared that the whole Yankees setup promotes anyone to be successful from the first day at the organization. Jeter added to his appreciation for Steinbrenner and shared, ” That’s the feeling from top to bottom. You see all the signs in the minor-league camp about winners and winning. He wants that Yankee tradition instilled in you and drills it in over and over. Even in the minors, we learned how to be Yankees, including hating the Red Sox.”

Those words certainly had a big impact on Jeter. He had a significant role in five world series title wins. He also guided his team in a famous first AL East title win in the new stadium against the Red Sox. Notably, Jeter is not only the first Yankees star, who has appreciated Steinbrenner. Interestingly, the other person is Jeter’s former teammate Alex Rodriguez.

Recently, Alex Rodriguez also focused on George Steinbrenner and the role he played during his lows. Rodriguez shared he was not doing well, but an appreciation note from Steinbrenner motivated him. Rodriguez hit two home runs that day and continued the same form for the next 35 days. Ultimately, it became one of the best seasons in his career. The two stories from the two Yankees stars reflect the importance of owner plays in the success of any organization.
