Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager has had a 2023 postseason unlike any other. Adding to his already long list of accomplishments, the shortstop’s two-run homer against Arizona D-backs in Game 1 of the World Series had Globe Life Field screaming. It pushed the team to extra innings and ultimately a victory. But the Rangers weren’t surprised; they had envisioned a phenomenal performance from Seager when they signed him in 2021.
The slugger’s range of titles was what attracted Texas to them at first. NL Rookie of the Year in 2016, Seager has also been a two-time All-Star since then. Not to forget his outstanding display in the 2020 Fall Classic with the Dodgers, where he was honored with the World Series MVP award. Is it any wonder that the Lone Star State spent its dollars on him?

After losing five seasons consecutively, the Texas Rangers made a game-changing decision by signing a $325M deal with Corey Seager in November 2021. The concerned deal, signed for a period of 10 years, is the largest in the franchise history. This was a part of the expensive $800 million spending spree by Rangers during the past two offseasons. Given Seager’s slash line of .297/.367/.504, not a surprise.

Aware of Seager?s potential, it seems like the Rangers’ bet on him is paying off well. And snatching a victory in this year’s World Series opener from the jaws of defeat with Adolis Garcia?s walk-off home run, the shortstop has time and again proved his worth.
One can’t forget the COVID-shortened 2020 season that saw Seager explode onto the postseason scene with grace. Texas can’t imagine that once, he could have gone to the Bronx. But thanks to Brian Cashman’s seemingly poor decision-making, the big bucks that the club spent on the shortstop are paying off.

Only two Texas Rangers players make a $30-plus million in 2023. While Corey Seager has the highest total contract worth $325M with the Rangers, his annual salary is second to Jacob deGrom.
After almost a decade in New York with the Mets, the pitcher came to Texas with a 5-year, $185 million contract. It also has a sixth-year clause option increasing the deal?s worth to $222 million. So he has a guaranteed annual salary with an average of $37 million per year. Seager, on the other hand, is making an annual average salary of $32.5 million.

The payroll breakdown may indicate the Rangers’ exorbitant deal with the star shortstop. But as 2023 is proving, the slugger may very well take the team to their first Fall Classic trophy.
