One of the most prominent rising stars in MBL history, Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks, has turned the tables around in today’s game. The All-Star, who just debuted last year, was instrumental to the team’s massive 9-1 win over the Texas Rangers in Game 2 of the World Series. A much-touted player, this came after he helped the D-Backs secure their first NLCS championship in two decades last week.

Although his bat was quiet against Philly in most of the series, Carroll lived up to his reputation in the end. Brilliant clutch hitting, impressive defense, a friendly spirit, and an enviable work ethic—the slugger has it all. But who was Corbin Carroll before he became the darling of the D-Backs in such a short time?

Born to Taiwanese restaurateur Pey-Lin and Irish-American physician Brant Carroll, Corbin had always been interested in delving deeper into his family’s background. The Carrolls migrated to Louisiana from Seattle when he was 4 years old. The slugger developed a fondness for Asian cuisine from his mother, who owns a chain of restaurants in Louisiana. Carroll considers his family to be the primary inspiration behind his shining career.

The American with a mixed heritage has a history of being multifaceted in his school’s sports teams. His sister, Campbell, shows the same sportsmanship in her soccer practices; she recently became eligible to play on the U.S. Nationals team. In his freshman years, Corbin played on the USA 18U national team, winning gold in the 2018 COPABE Pan-American Championships. He had a background in playing baseball and also excelled in games such as tennis and soccer.

While excelling both academically and athletically, the slugger has seldom shied away from going on new adventures. The Killer Clutch loves to experiment with his diverse heritage, combining traditionalism with modernity. He once visited his mother’s family in Taiwan when he was 13 years of age, which led him to recognize the enormity of their ethnic culture.

Corbin includes a variety of traditional and modern foods, like sushi, in his otherwise plant-based diet. His part-Taiwanese heritage influenced much of his food habits, like juices made of turmeric and ginger or his rice and potato-based meals. It helps him stay balanced and focused while in the game and aids in a faster recovery off the field.
