This season Miami Marlins have lost something more precious than the World Series, probably. MLB seasons are all about winning and losing the games; statistics of the teams tell the ultimate story. However, for the Miami Marlins, their current loss seems to be irreplaceable. Days after their most successful GM, Kim Ng, stepped down, the team is going into a new controversy. A renowned MLB insider claimed the team inexplicably forced the GM to leave her position.
This season has already witnessed several stepping downs of renowned GMs and executives of the top franchises. However, none was as shocking as Kim Ng’s. She did her job well, leading the team to the playoffs for the first time in the last 20 years. But her consequence was pathetic. While the team was saying it was her decision, Jon Heyman took a completely different road.

Kim Ng’s recruitment was a ground-breaking decision the Marlins took in 2021. However, the parting is an equally poor decision for the team. While the team was performing great, having her as the leader, this shocking decision changed things in an instant. Kim Ng was undoubtedly one of the best GMs the team ever had. With her assistance, they broke their two-decades-long playoff curse in 2023. Also, it was the Marlins’ 4th best season in their history. Focusing on these points, Heyman claimed, “Ng engineered the Marlins? 4th best record ever and first playoff appearance in 20 years.”

While the team said they were ready to revise her contract, but the GM herself denied it, insiders claim a different story. Though the team didn’t tell her to leave, they informed her about recruiting a president of baseball operations. A designation higher than hers, which effectively will restrict her freedom to decide things. Interestingly, the team still has no one in their mind to recruit in that position.
Another reason they highlighted was that the authorities were concerned about the draft and player developments. However, this section came to Kim’s hand only recently. About that some insiders claimed, “couple high-ranking analytics folks who remain had a deep imprint on the bad drafts and weak development for years, well before she ascended to become the true decisionmaker 18 months ago.”?
Heyman even had his assumptions about Kim Ng’s future landing spots.

?Kim Ng’s probable landing spots
Kim Ng is a valuable free agent in the executive market, especially after her contribution to the Marlins. While MLB enthusiasts have been assuming her to join the Chicago White Sox, Heyman predicted something else. He said, “I think she’ll have options.” Though she had previously worked with the team, the NY Post writer doesn’t consider it as her future landing spot.

For him, The New York Mets and Boston Red Sox have vacancies for the GM, and Ng is an excellent choice for them. However, these are all assumptions that can’t be verified unless the teams take some action.
