All three superstars were asked to recall if they remembered their first time in the big leagues, specifically the 1995 season, and whether Jeter and Posada were roommates. The Puerto Rican revealed that although the two weren’t roommates, they were housed in the same hotel in New Jersey. Both of them shared a car, a humble Dodge Neon, in order to travel back and forth to the ballpark. What provided comic relief to the two players was the steering wheel of the car.

Talking to Sports Illustrated, Posada said, “It said NEON on the steering wheel, and if you [barely] touched it, touched the o just like this, it would honk the horn. Eh-eh. Just touch it.” Posada confirmed the duo didn’t get too many chances in the ’95 season and were mostly spectators themselves. Their shared moments in the Neon laid a foundation for their camaraderie over the years.

However, Jeter was quick to interject and correct the former Yankee catcher. He claimed that he and Rivera had already been called up earlier in the year, but were ultimately sent down to the minor league the same day in June. Rivera candidly talked about what contributed to their temporary demotion. It was because Rivera gave up a home run against Edgar Martinez.

Jokingly responding, Jeter commented, “He gave up a home run and they sent me down! We were miserable.” The collective challenges faced by Jeter, Rivera, Posada, and Pettitte strengthened their resolve, and they ended up establishing one of the most iconic baseball dynasties in the process.
