The baseball off-season will soon come to an end, and MLB teams are wrapping up whatever moves they have made so far. Since it’s almost mid-January, it is now time for the arbitration of salaries. The New York Yankees have just finished agreeing to contracts with most of their players, except one. It’s no secret that there were rumors of Gleyber Torres being traded to the Seattle Mariners, though nothing came of it.

For those unversed, arbitration is a process for players in their third-sixth years where they negotiate a salary. The players and the team throw out numbers before they settle on one. If the number is not decided before the deadline, a neutral arbitrator will choose for them. As for two-time All-Star Gleyber Torres, it’s unclear what direction the Yankees will take.

Yankees journalist Brian Hoch reported that except for Torres, all other arbitration-eligible players were settled with. Torres, who will now be in the fifth year of his MLB career, filed for $10.2 million. And while the Yankees countered with $9.7 million, a decision has yet to be reached as of now.

What happens usually is that most players settle on an amount before the deadline. The Yankees’ reliever Lou Trivino and infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa even agreed to deal back in November. However, it looks like things may be headed to a rare arbitration hearing with Torres.

The shortstop shared a photo of his son and himself on his Instagram story, titled “Seguimos Esperando” or “We still waiting.

The Yankees and the Venezuelan pro baseball may come to an agreement just yet. After all, they settled with Aaron Judge moments before, just minutes before the hearing last season.

Torres may have struggled in the last post-season, but he has historically been a distinguished player. With a .364 OBP, he has a .281 batting average with five homers.
