Derek Jeter is one of the calmest baseball legends of all time. He was rarely seen arguing or quarreling with others. But there were times when the legend broke his cool image and expressed his anger. David Wells once revealed he was on the receiving side more than once. He once talked about a small dispute during an interview where the former Yankees Captain broke his image.
Errors are part of life, and legends are no exception. They also make blunders and learn from those. Even Captain Clutch made one blunder in the 1998 game that was pretty heavy for his team. Out of frustration, the player had a brief argument moment with his teammate. Years later, David Wells revealed how he handled the situation.

Brief arguments between teammates are common. Players, especially captains, often scold their mates for wrong steps or mistakes. However, the incident Wells revealed was completely different. He got into the spat without any issue. During his interview on Foul Territory podcast, the Yankees former star revealed a heated moment between him and Jeter. Following his blasting performance against the Minnesota Twins, the Pitcher was getting ready for another game against the Oakland Athletics when the incident happened.
The Podcast revelation includes, during the seventh inning of that game, after two hitters were out, Jason Giambi was in the box, ready to hit. The legend described the later incident like, “Derek [Jeter] lost it in the sun or the lights. It was just a routine fly. I think Giambi hit it, and it was just like … I put my hands on my head like that (reenacts his reaction) and then the media just took that and ran with it.”
Though the fault was not the Pitcher’s, the Yankees icon made the blunder, he got frustrated. He ran to the mound and, out of anger, said, “We don’t play that crap around here.” To keep the situation under control, the former pitcher immediately took a wise step as he explained, “I’m like, ‘Get back to shortstop. I’ll tell you what’s going on.’” The Yankees lost it, but the dispute overshadowed the defeat. However, that was not the first scuffle among the duo. They had several more, and Jeter shared one in his documentary The Captain.

Derek Jeter Shared His Dispute With Wells
Wells played two years with the New York Yankees. During these two years, the pitcher had several scuffles with the shortstop. While the one Wells talked about was in 1998, the one Jeter opened up also happened in the same year. During a game against the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees got several changes in the field. The inclusion of rookie players backfired heavily, and the team had a heavy downfall.

The rookie fielders failed to stop the ball once, and Wells showed his disgust and frustration by expanding his hands and a knee-jerk gesture. Jeter generally never scolded his teammates, he did it during the game and told the pitcher, as he himself expressed, “So I told him we don’t do that shit around here … and that was pretty much the extent of it.” However, the media and fans later created rumors from it that the duo cleared out later.
