Derek Jeter is among baseball’s biggest personalities and while he has some famous friends, perhaps no one is more special to him than his wife, Hannah Davis. Before the two even met, Mrs. Jeter was an accomplished supermodel with a highly successful career. Most famously, she made the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit Edition. But before landing on the cover, she used to feature in the zine’s pages.

Interestingly, Davis didn’t have much of a connection to baseball and didn’t know Jeter was a big name in the sports world. But she was still something of an athlete herself – Davis played tennis and was a champion for the Caribbean National team. Perhaps, it was the influence of growing up in a sports-oriented world – while she didn’t know about Jeter, she definitely soccer icon, David Beckham.

Davis modeled for SI’s Swimsuit Issue from 2013-2017. While she made the cover in 2015, her rookie year was also interesting. Sitting down for an interview along with models Emily DiDonato & Kate Bock for an introduction, Davis discussed various topics. Then an interviewer asked the trio, “Who do you think you’d have a better chance beating one on one in their respective sport? LeBron James or David Beckham?”

Among the chorus of answers, Davis said, “I don’t play basketball.” Then the interviewer changed the question, “Or you can approach it like this – you could play LeBron James in soccer. Or would you have a better chance at beating David Beckham at basketball?”

While DiDonato answered, “I think David Beckham at basketball. I think LeBron James would kill it at any sort of athletic situation,” the others agreed. Then Davis asked, “Beckham’s not that tall, is he? We could take him.”

While there has been no reported connection between the model and basketball, Beckham is friends with the NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. Although fans never got to see this match-up, it would have been an interesting game! What’s notable is, while this interview took place in 2013, height has actually become something of a sore point for the soccer icon lately.

Beckham’s kids keep him on his toes – literally

David Beckham has four kids – three sons and a daughter. His two middle kids, Romeo and Cruz, have outgrown his 6ft stature in recent years. Beckham sometimes posts stories comparing his height with either one or both of them but always falls just a bit short.

Moreover, in a December 2021 family photo, the former Manchester United player stood on his tippy toes to match his sons’ heights. Fans were quick to point that out, even though all the men in the photo were dressed almost identically.
