Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees is the most popular and fiercest rivalry in baseball. Irrespective of the recent performances for either team, games contested between the arch-rivals record high attendance. But Tuesday night’s game between the two teams had unfamiliar scenery. 

The Boston Red Sox are having a nightmarish season this year. Struggling with a horrible win-loss record, they are already out of any title contention. The Red Sox are now the last-ranked American League East team. And hence, empty seats at Fenway Park are a self-explanatory sight. 

The Red Sox played the first game of the home series against the Yankees on Tuesday. The Yankees broadcasters took note of the empty seats at Fenway Park. Therefore, the broadcasters went on to highlight the reason behind the poor attendance. 

Red Sox vs Yankees: A rare empty house game 

The woes for the Red Sox have been never-ending this MLB edition. The attack and defense have both failed miserably on most occasions. From massive defeats to blowing out potential victories, the Red Sox have seen it all this season. Tuesday night’s game against the Yankees was no different in that regard. 

The Red Sox have remained below par in their performances throughout the season. On the other hand, the Yankees, too, have fought through their own inconsistencies. The Yankees were dominant in the first half of the season. But after the mid-tournament break, the Yankees too suffered from a slump in form. 

Nonetheless, with much better performances recently, the Yankees have stopped the slide. Tuesday night’s showdown between the arch-rivals was a typical thriller. The Yankees defeated the Red Sox by a 7-6 margin. But unfortunately, there were barely enough spectators in the gallery.

One of the Yankees broadcasters said, “I’m looking around Fenway Park. A lot of empty seats, right? With the Red Sox being in last place having a down year.” While the fellow broadcaster added, “Yeah. Seems like they’ve more shifted their attention to the Patriots. And how they lost to the Dolphins.” 

The road ahead for the two teams 

The Red Sox haven’t got much left to do this season, and are only playing to salvage pride. The end of the regular MLB season will signal the conclusion of their campaign. Whereas, the Yankees are still the rank-toppers in the American League East zone standings. They have got a great chance to win the World Series this season, after a 23-year-long gap.
