Paul O Neill had a brilliant baseball career. He made his debut in 1985 for Cincinnati Reds. With the Reds, Paul won a World Championship in 1990, and in 1993 he moved to the New York Yankees, where he spent the remaining eight years of his career. During these eight years, he won 4 World Championships with the Yankees. O’Neill has featured in 5 All-Star teams, won two Silver Slugger awards, and won the American League Batting Champion in 1994. He’s become the center of news lately after the NY Yankees retired, his jersey number 21 on August 21, 2022.

NY Yankees Superstar Paul O’Neill on Television

Paul O’Neill, after retirement from baseball, remained in the field of baseball. He entered the world of media and broadcasting and became a baseball analyst. However, during his playing career, he made a special appearance on the popular NYV Sitcom Seinfeld in season 7 episode 4, The Wink. Larry David and the famous comic Jerry Seinfeld created the show in 1989. With multiple baseball references, lead actor George Costanza, played by Jason Alexander, worked in the Yankees management.

In the show, George is preparing a letter signed by all the Yankee players for Mr. Steinbrenner’s (played by Larry David) birthday. Thanks to Kramer (played by Michael Richards), the letter ends up with a bedridden kid as a gift. As George needed the card back, Kramer goes to the hospital in an attempt to convince the kid and bring back the card.

In the video, the kid agrees to return the card only if Paul O’Neill hits two homers in his next game. Kramer runs to Paul, requesting him to do the same. “You what? You promised a kid in the hospital I would hit two home runs? It’s hard to hit two home runs,” says Paul O’Neill as Kramer approaches him for this absurd demand. Despite that, he manages to hit one homer and one inside-the-park homer. However, the kid refuses to return the trophy on the pretext that the promise was two homers. Kramer eventually promises that Paul O’Neill will catch the ball in his hat in the next match. Eventually, he gets the frame back and Steinbrenner loved it and offers a promotion to George.

Derek Jeter’s appearance on Saturday Night Live

On a slightly different note, Derek Jeter appears on the point and counterpoint segment during Saturday Night Live. He comes to the show with Seth Meyers, a Boston Red Sox fan. They discuss the topic, Meyers is for “Derek Jeter sucks” and Jeter is for “I don’t.”
