Josh Donaldson was the hero who saved the New York Yankees from another series sweep on Wednesday. Notably, the Yankees are having a hard time in Major League Baseball, especially after the All-Star break. The Aaron Boone-led team has lost more games than they have won in the second half of the ongoing MLB season.

Even after this win against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Pinstripes have lost five series in a row. If the Yankees did not have a dominant record in the 1st half, they would struggle to stay at the top of the AL East.

After losing the first two games of the series, the Yankees were all set to lose the third game, too. But the brilliance of their third baseman Josh Donaldson in the late-inning of the game saved the Yankees from the series sweep.

Josh Donaldson stepped up for the Yankees; honored his uncle with a grand slam

This win was the need of the hour for the New York Yankees after losing three straight games against the Red Sox and Rays. But it was also equally important for the Yankees’ third baseman Josh Donaldson.

During the 10th inning of the game, the Pinstripes were trailing by three runs to the Rays. But Donaldson?s grand slam turned the table around and won the game for the Yankees. After hitting the walk-off homer, Donaldson was quite emotional. And the reason was his beloved uncle, who had a heart attack two days ago.

While talking to YES Network, the Yankees? slugger dedicated the grand slam to his uncle Bill and credited the team for a victory over the Rays.

?Well, first of all, my uncle Bill had a heart attack two days ago… I just wanted to — I know, he is watching the game — know, I love you! I?m praying for you. So yeah, that’s kind of emotional right now. But at the end of the day, our team did a great job today,? Josh Donaldson said.

When talking about the Yankees, they have a tough week ahead. The Aaron Boone-led team has to play against the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets. And given the current form of the Yankees’ offense, both series look in danger.
