Correspondingly, his high-profile romantic escapades dictated a giant portion of his popularity, but seemingly, according to an aged Mariah Carey comment, Jeter’s popularity played a role in reciting his romantic relationships.

In a two-decade-old interview, Mariah Carey spoke about the perpetually scrutinizing public eye that surrounded her year-long relationship with Derek Jeter, because as is said, popularity comes with a price.

Why did Mariah Carey’s relationship with Derek Jeter end?

The future Yankees captain and the notable Queen of Christmas started dating in 1997 when Carey was still married to music producer Tommy Mottola. But the couple soon fell prey to their own popularity, and the “Roof” singer spoke about it to Access Hollywood in 1998.

She blamed the constantly nagging press houses behind the failure of her relationship and spoke about the effect it had on the couple, who were already on high on celebrity status. She said, “It’s hard to keep your private life, private.”
