Baseball veterans Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. entered the playground together after a long time. The father-son duo once famously played as teammates. They both played together for the Seattle Mariners.

Ken Griffey Sr. played MLB for multiple teams but is famous for his tenure with a dominant Cincinnati Reds team. Griffey Sr. is a two-time World Series winner and three-time All-Star player. All those achievements came through as a Reds player. Whereas Griffey Jr. too played for multiple teams in between, he began and concluded his MLB career with the Seattle Mariners. He is a 13-time All-Star player.

The ‘Field Of Dreams’ is an American pop-culture tourist attraction. The venue gets its name from the film adaptation and the original novel that inspired the story. In 2021, the heritage site became an MLB ballpark. The playground hosts one game annually during a season. The first MLB game at the venue got played between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees in 2021. 

The Griffeys hog limelight at the Field

The last time that the two Griffeys played baseball together was in 1991. Ken Griffey Sr. played the last couple of years of his MLB career with the Mariners. While Ken Griffey Jr. began his MLB career with the Mariners in 1990. 

In a promotional move, the Griffeys duo made their way through the iconic cornfields. There were loud cheers from the crowd as the father-son pair made their way to the ground. Griffey Jr. looked at his father and asked, “Hey dad, want to have a catch?” To which the elder Griffey answered, “I would like that.” The game later followed on. 

The inaugural ‘Field Of Dreams’ game in 2021 saw actor Kevin Costner making his way through the cornfields. He led the way followed by the White Sox and the Yankees players. Costner acted in the ‘Field Of Dreams’ film adaptation, which laid the backdrop for the MLB concept. So the proceedings began with an opening speech from Costner.

The White Sox played as the home team in that game. The Yankees appeared on course for a victory. But a stylish walk-off home run by Tim Anderson tilted the script as the White Sox won a thriller by a 9-8 margin. This year, the ‘Field Of Dreams’ game got contested between the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds. 

‘Field Of Dreams’ in 2022: The game report 

The Reds played as the home team this time around. However, the Cubs won the game by a 4-2 margin. Some fine batting from Seiya Suzuki, Nick Madrigal, and Ian Happ helped the Cubs. Notably, Cubs’ starting pitcher Drew Smyly struck out nine batters pitching five scoreless innings. Matt Reynolds hit a double for the Reds, but that was all.
