Mike Trout is one of baseball’s most likable personalities. With the LA Angels center-fielder on the top of most fans’ favorability, he proved yet again just why he deserves the recognition. In a rare find in January, a kid by the name of Joey Ferrante was thrilled by a rare Trout card that he had received. And even a few months after the incident, when Ferrante pulled up to an Angels game to meet Trout, the superstar did not disappoint.

Mike Trout met not just with Joey, but with his entire family at the LA Angel’s game. And for young Joey Ferrante, the game became more special because of what had happened in the family just a day prior.

He revealed an emotional detail behind the story, having the card that left many on the internet in tears. The young Joey Ferrante had snagged the Trout collectible card, but it was something he would gladly have traded away if he could.

It overjoyed the young Mike Trout fan when he initially snagged the card in January. But the real emotion behind the story came when the young fan spoke about how he had collected baseball cards. Ferrante had collected baseball cards with his grandfather, who only passed away recently.

Fighting back tears, the young fan recounted the story of how he started collecting the baseball cards. “He told me all about his collection, so I loved getting cards with him. And I got that with my dad now.”

As with any good things, luck did not come easy to the young fan, but when he did get lucky, it was truly a sight to behold. Said Ferrante, “So we started collecting baseball cards a couple years ago, so we just kept going and eventually we got to here.”

Mike Trout even walked up to the family to oblige with a photo to mark the occasion and the card. With a smile on his face and a shake of the hand, he made the young fan’s day. With tears in his eyes, the young fan remembered his late grandfather as the fan of the game that he was. “He would’ve definitely been here,” he added.

The LA Angels missed out on the opportunity as they slipped in their game to lose 6-5 to the Toronto Blue Jays. And with their losing streak yet to snap, they look primed for a slide down the AL West. The Angels will be hoping that some power hitting can help them finally escape this quagmire and make it to the postseason.
