WATCH: Jose Altuve Suffers Horror Collision at First Base; When Will He Return?

The Houston Astros are in the middle of a purple patch. Leading the AL West with a 31-18 record so far, the Astros look formidable. However, their ambitions in the short term may have had a bit of a hit. Jose Altuve was involved in a collision incident at first base when they took on the Oakland Athletics at the Coliseum. And even while they walked out 5-1 winners, the Astros may have just faced a roster blow. One that leaves them vulnerable.

Jose Altuve is a key part of the Houston Astros’ hitting lineup. And with Alex Bregman in it, too, the Astros are far from a team that once, was struggling offensively. However, that equation may be set to change after the most recent incident. With a collision at the Coliseum seeing the possible benching of Jose Altuve for some games to come, the Astros will see a hole in their batting lineup that teams could then exploit.

Jose Altuve suffers a collision

With a 2-2 count at the bottom of the 7th, Altuve saw contact on the pitch to the infield, as he looked to run onto first. A slow pop just in front of the third base made Altuve’s run urgent and hurried and probably led to the urgency in his running.

The Houston Astros’ 2nd baseman collided with the Christian Bethancourt in an incident that had them both sprawled on their backs for a few minutes.

However, in some good news, both got back up and continued the game as best they could. Dusty Baker, manager of the Houston Astros, noted that something seemed different about Altuve as he came into the dugout.

While Altuve remains under observation for the concussion protocol, the Astros wrapped up a victory on the road. However, it seems unlikely that Altuve will feature in the next game in the series. Manager Dusty Baker said that Altuve, “didn’t look too good in the eyes” when he came to the dugout. At the same time, if the observations return negative results, we could see Altuve feature as a part of the series as well.
