Baseball has its high and low moments. But what happened recently cannot be seen in a positive light. The sport suffered a major blow after a brawl between the two Mobile college baseball teams took place. What looked like a minor clash and difference of opinion quickly turned into a violent incident. It eventually led to the suspension of the college baseball game.

But this isn’t the first time something like that happened. We have seen it before—the 2003 clash between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. However, baseball has changed a lot since then, and no one expected something to occur again, right?

That may be true. However, that didn’t stop the on-field fight between the Spring Hill College and the University of Mobile teams. The game began smoothly until there was a heated exchange of words between Spring Hill College’s shortstop, Seth Williams, and Mobile’s pitcher, Isidro Jimenez. In the video that WKRG uploaded to YouTube, the college batter hit the ball into the air, and Mobile’s catcher caught it. Moments later, the brawl erupted with the commentators saying, “This is not what you want to see. These are pure haymakers being thrown, folks; this game may be over.”

The brawl continued for several seconds until match officials and coaches intervened. They managed to separate the players of both teams. However, that was too late, as the game was eventually suspended after the eleventh inning. It was not a sight to behold, as fans and the entire baseball world didn’t expect what they saw. Numerous punches and hits were exchanged — a chaotic display from both sides.

Even the match officials were unable to control the players and that’s why the game was suspended. An investigation of the incident is underway. However, an official statement has been revealed, citing that the decision to resume the game is yet to be determined. While it will remain a black day in the sport, this recalls the infamous 2003 incident.

It was back in 2003 when fans were eagerly waiting to see the epic battle between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. When you think about brawls in baseball, this game comes first to the mind of many. Not only do we remember it as a decisive game of the seven-game series but also because of what happened during that game. The Red Sox were ready for the final at-bat during the ninth inning when a commotion was heard from right field. There was an exchange of words between the Yankees’ reliever Jeff Nelson and a security guard at Fenway Park. But the conflict escalated further.

Karim Garcia soon became involved, and in no time, the fight started. There was even a moment when the Red Sox’s Pedro Martinez was about to hit Karim Garcia right on the head. It happened when Roger Clemens was found to retaliate with the pitch, which, though, never came near Manny Ramirez’s head. That moment sparked a major confrontation. Ramirez misunderstood it, and it turned out to be a major face-off between Pedro Martinez and coach Don Zimmer, ultimately leading to Zimmer being thrown down. Such was the severity of the brawl that it ended up with Nelson, Garcia and other employees charged with assault, while Garcia and Nelson were handed a 50-day probation.
